Want to help bring performances to life in Memorial Hall, Gerrard Hall, Historic Playmaker’s Theater, Moeser Auditorium in Hill Hall, and CURRENT Artspace+Studio?

As a part of our effort to integrate arts into the life of the University, Carolina Performing Arts employs more than 100 part-time student staff in several areas of arts administration and venue operations. Students are scheduled around their classes, and can dictate the maximum number of hours they are able to work in a week. Opportunities for eligible work-study students exist in most departments. Prior experience is considered but not required, and students may receive merit-based and skill-based promotions. Positions are filled as needed.

The DisTIL Artistic Liaison is a member of Carolina Performing Arts’ Artist Services team and will support the work of visiting artist fellows who are involved with CPA’s DisTIL grant, assisting with the coordination and execution of fellows’ logistics on the ground under the direction of the DisTIL postdoctoral fellow. The Artistic Liaison will work during the weeks when DisTIL artists are here on campus and will work office hours as needed before or after artist visits.  Duties include but are not limited to:

-Driving DisTIL fellows to locations in Chapel Hill, and when required, the Triangle
-Accompanying DisTIL fellows to and from meetings as needed
-Assisting with financial and billing matters during visits
-Arranging fellows’ lodging
-Assisting with event set-up and staffing
-Supporting the fellows’ artistic projects as needed
-Other duties as assigned

Requirements:  Work hours for this position will vary each week, but the Artistic Liaison and their supervisor will determine each week’s schedule in advance. Night and weekend availability are required.  A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

Administrative Associates staff the reception desk in Carolina Performing Arts’ administrative office in the Porthole Building. Duties include greeting and directing visitors, responding to phone and in-person requests for information, distributing mail and performing other tasks as assigned. Employees must be available to working during standard business hours (9 AM-5 PM Monday-Friday).

Artistic Associates assist with the set-up and clean-up of artist hospitality and post-performance receptions, artist hospitality shopping and general errand running, transporting artists to and from the performance venue, creating artist welcome packets, and general administrative support. Hours will vary from week to week according to the event schedule. Night/weekend availability and a valid driver’s license are required. This position does not qualify for Work-Study.

Development Associates assist the Development team in three distinct areas: the Annual Fund Associate works closely with the Assistant Director of Development in stewarding annual fund donors, maintaining donor records, and preparing mailings to secure new donations for CPA; the Events Associate executes performance receptions and fundraising events throughout the season; and the Development Office Associate provides administrative support and ensures accurate and timely communication with supporters. Employees must be available for a minimum of 10 hours/week.

Ushers are responsible for making sure CPA’s performance spaces are prepared to welcome guests, greeting all patrons, assisting with any seating or other customer service needs and ensuring the safety of patrons throughout all performances. Hours will vary from week to week according to the event schedule. Employees must be available for a minimum of 15 hours/week. Candidates must be able to stand for shifts lasting 3-6 hours and be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.

Production staff members work behind-the-scenes to set up, run, and strike performances and events in every CPA venue. It’s a hands-on position that works all hours of the day and night. All new staff members will begin as assistants, with basic training in audio, carpentry, and lighting departments. Hours will vary from week to week according to the event schedule. Employees must be willing to work 20 hours/week, be able to lift and carry 40 pounds, and be comfortable with heights.

Sales Associates process ticketing orders in person, over the phone, and assist patrons in completing online ticket orders as well as provide general customer service to all patrons and visitors. Employees must be available for a minimum of 10 hours/week.
