Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn approach music as a lens through which we can explore the complex links between local and international tradition, culture, and identity. Drawing connections between disparate vernacular music communities and emphasizing the sustained importance of the local in an increasingly globalized society, folklorists Dr. Tiber Falzett,  Dr. Cece Conway, and Aaron Smithers explore the histories and contemporary lives of Gaelic music from Cape Breton, early settler mountain music, and underground rock from Chapel Hill.
