Master drummer and composer Brian Blade returns to Memorial Hall, this time with his own magnificent Fellowship Band. Widely acknowledged as one of the most versatile and accomplished drummers in music, he has appeared on albums by Herbie Hancock, Kenny Garrett, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris and Daniel Lanois, and toured with Chick Corea in the high-profile Five Peace Band. Since 2000, he has been a member of the iconic Wayne Shorter Quartet. Grand in scope and emotional breadth, the Fellowship?s sound is a seamless and original fusion of jazz, country, folk, soul and rock.

Professor Dan Davis of the Music Department at UNC-Chapel Hill will speak about the history of the drum set as it pertains to jazz.

Speaker Bio: Dan is an active educator and clinician–he is an adjunct professor of jazz drumset and jazz history, and coaches combos at UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, and UNC-Pembroke. As an educator, he has performed with artists Joe Chambers, Claudio Roditi, Conrad Herwig, Eric Alexander, Ben Allison, The North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, Gary Smulyan, Lynn Seaton, and many others.
