Carolina Performing Arts Unveils New Website

Chapel Hill, NC…Carolina Performing Arts announces a new website created for the 100th anniversary celebration The Rite of Spring’s premiere.

The new website was designed and built by Chapel Hill-based Rivers Agency and features a rich design that highlights the performances, new commissions and world premieres that are part of The Rite of Spring at 100 celebration. Other features include mobile-friendly construction with a strong social media interface.

The site includes audio and video clips as well as in-depth information about artists involved in The Rite of Spring at 100 such as Yo-Yo Ma, Valery Gergiev, Bill T. Jones, Anne Bogart and Vijay Iyer.

“We wanted a website that could showcase the fascinating history of The Rite of Spring and its continuing influence on today’s composers and artists. We applaud the work of The Rivers Agency and look forward to working with them in the future for the redesign of the Carolina Performing Arts website,” said Mark Nelson, director of marketing for Carolina Performing Arts.

On May 29, 1913, The Rite of Spring, choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky to a score by Igor Stravinsky, set off a riot at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Stravinsky’s use of brutal and asymmetrical rhythms and Nijinsky’s “anti-ballet” paired with designer Nicholas Roerich’s costumes inspired by pagan tribes was shocking for its time and remains a hallmark of artistic innovation.

CPA is honoring this masterpiece by commissioning artists to create 11 new works including nine world premieres and two US premieres that will debut during the upcoming 2012/2013 season.
