The Friday, February 14, 2014 performance of One Night in Bamako | The Magic of Mali featuring Fatoumata Diawara and Bassekou Kouyate has been CANCELLED due to severe winter weather conditions.
Rescheduled concert featuring Fatoumata Diawara has been confirmed for Friday, April 11, 2014.
Following the lead of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), the recommendation of UNC Public Safety, and to ensure the safety of the artists, audience, and staff, Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) has cancelled the performance.
UNC is currently operating at Condition 3 until Saturday morning at 8 A.M., meaning the University is essentially closed in the interest of safety. Classes are canceled, and University offices are closed. Factors that led to that decision Thursday afternoon include: continuing snow and freezing precipitation; deteriorating travel conditions, including expected refreezing on roads overnight; law enforcement recommending staying off of the roads except for emergencies; and current limitations of Chapel Hill Transit, which did not operate Thursday.
Carolina Performing Arts has confirmed that Fatoumata Diawara, one of two headliners from One Night in Bamako | The Magic of Mali, has agreed to perform at Memorial Hall on Friday, April 11, 2014. Tickets for Friday’s cancelled performance will be honored on April 11 with no further action needed from current ticketholders.
Tickets may also be exchanged towards any remaining 2013-2014 performance. For assistance with ticket exchanges or questions surrounding the cancellation of this event, please contact the Carolina Performing Arts Box Office at 919-843-3333. Please note that the box office, in accordance with UNC’s Condition 3 announcement, will reopen at 10 A.M. on Monday, February 17. CPA requires that all exchanges or other actions be fulfilled by Friday, February 28 2014. After February 28, no action or exchange will constitute ticket(s) moved to April 11 performance and refunds will not be available. Please call the box office with questions.
