International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE)
Vijay Iyer, composer and pianist

Vijay Iyer—one of the most exciting jazz pianists of our time—presents a new piece commissioned by Carolina Performing Arts for ICE inspired by the Holi festival, the Hindu festival of colors. The new work is accompanied by multimedia footage of a Holi festival in Mathura, a town in Uttar Pradesh, India, and created by filmmaker Prashant Bhargava. Additionally, the program will include works by recent ICElab collaborators Tyshawn Sorey and Steve Lehman. Iyer, Sorey and Lehman comprise the legendary trio, Fieldwork

Program:

Tyshawn Sorey: Ode to Gust Burns, for guitar, trombone, bassoon, percussion, and piano
Steve Lehman: Lenwood & Other Saints Who Roam the Earth, for 2 flutes
Steve Lehman: Manifold, for flute, clarinet, percussion, saxophone, and piano
Vijay Iyer: New Work, for flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, violin, viola, cello, 2 pianos, percussion, and guitar
